What's Happening?
The U.S. Space Force has successfully completed a critical design review for the initial two orbital planes of its Epoch 2 missile-warning and tracking network. This achievement greenlights the construction of 10 new satellites, which will be deployed
in medium Earth orbit. These satellites are designed to enhance global coverage and improve the military's capacity to detect, track, and assess advanced missile threats, particularly maneuverable hypersonic missiles. BAE Space & Mission Systems, one of the planned Epoch 2 suppliers, supported this review. The Epoch 2 program is a key component of Space Systems Command’s Resilient Missile Warning and Tracking initiative, building upon the existing Epoch 1, which consists of 12 satellites across its first two medium Earth orbit planes. The combined phases aim to establish a more robust global missile-tracking architecture.
