John Matthew Baumann, a resident of Chicago and Northfield, passed away on May 28, 2026, at the age of 38 after a courageous battle with pancreatobiliary cancer. He was surrounded by loved ones at the time of his passing. Baumann is survived by his mother,
Marian Moran Baumann, and siblings Michael, Daniel, and Elizabeth, as well as his niece and nephew. His father, Robert R. Baumann, Jr., preceded him in death. John was known for his athletic prowess, having been an All American lacrosse player in high school and competing at the Division 1 collegiate level for the University of Denver and Hobart College. A celebration of life ceremony is planned for later this summer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Clay Path Academy, a therapeutic day school for children with special needs.
