What's Happening?
A Japanese company, SDRS, has developed an innovative cooling solution called the Do Hiemon Box, designed to help individuals quickly cool down in extreme heat conditions. This walk-in cooling booth, also known as the 'human refrigerator,' is engineered
to provide rapid relief from high temperatures by blowing chilled air at critical areas of the body such as the head, neck, shoulders, and back. The booth maintains an internal temperature of 15°C, with air directed at 5°C, allowing users to cool down in as little as five minutes. The technology is particularly beneficial for those experiencing early symptoms of heat exhaustion, such as workers in construction, warehouses, and other outdoor environments. The booth is energy-efficient, using about half the electricity of a conventional air conditioner, and offers customizable cooling settings. It automatically shuts off after 20 minutes to prevent overcooling. Since its launch in April, the Do Hiemon Box has been installed in various public locations across Japan, including the Maebashi City Hall in Gunma Prefecture, where it is available for public use.
