Capt. Jonathan Andrechik has transferred command of Coast Guard Sector New York to Capt. Doreen McCarthy during a change-of-command ceremony held in Staten Island. The ceremony was presided over by Rear Adm. Michael Platt, Commander of the Coast Guard Northeast
District. Capt. McCarthy, who has been serving as the deputy commander since May 2024, takes over the largest operational field command on the East Coast. Capt. Andrechik, who assumed command in April 2024, will now move to Washington, D.C., to become the Commander of the Coast Guard Personnel Service Center. During his tenure, Capt. Andrechik managed significant maritime operations, including overseeing the movement of over $900 billion in maritime commerce and responding to 3,100 incidents, saving 232 lives.
