What's Happening?
Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong emphasized the importance of workforce development in adapting to uncertainty and technological disruptions. Speaking at the Singapore National Employers Federation's
(SNEF) Employers' Summit, he highlighted the need for employers to engage their workforce, build trust, and enhance productivity through skills upgrading and job transformation. SNEF is set to establish an Advisory, Resource and Consultancy Centre to support employers with practical HR and legal advice, and to help navigate government grants and workforce transformation programs.
Why It's Important?
The focus on workforce development is critical as companies face a tighter labor market and rising expectations from workers. By investing in skills upgrading and job transformation, employers can better adapt to technological changes and maintain competitiveness. The establishment of SNEF's new center aims to provide comprehensive support to employers, facilitating smoother transitions and fostering fair workplace practices. This initiative is expected to strengthen Singapore's economic resilience and ensure that businesses can effectively respond to global challenges.
What's Next?
SNEF plans to continue its efforts in helping employers manage disruption and foster workforce agility. The organization will focus on translating global trends into practical transformation plans, accelerating job redesign, and promoting fair workplace practices. Additionally, SNEF has announced a new Research Advisory Panel to guide its research agenda, addressing the need for forward-looking insights from the employers' perspective. These initiatives are expected to support Singapore's long-term economic growth and stability.
