What's Happening?
Contemporary visual artist Julie Mehretu, known for her large-scale abstract works, is spearheading a series of workshops across Africa aimed at empowering local artists. These workshops, organized by the African Film and Media Arts Collective (AFMAC),
are being held in five cities, including Lagos, Tangier, Nairobi, Dakar, and Cape Town. The initiative seeks to foster cross-disciplinary and intergenerational conversations among artists, amplifying their voices and encouraging the creation of new, challenging art forms. The workshops will culminate in the production of films that showcase contemporary African filmmaking, to be presented alongside the BMW Art Car exhibition at the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa in Cape Town. This project is part of Mehretu's broader mission to connect and strengthen the artistic community within Africa.
