Thomas Alan Harris, a former Tennessee lawmaker and respected legal practitioner, passed away at the age of 92 on June 10. Harris, who was born in Chattanooga in 1933, had a distinguished career in both law and public service. After serving in the U.S.
Navy, he pursued a legal career, becoming a general practitioner with a focus on civil defense. Harris was admitted to practice in several federal Circuit Courts of Appeal and the U.S. Supreme Court. He served in the Tennessee House and Senate from 1962 to 1968 before choosing to focus on his legal career and family. Harris was also deeply involved in community service, holding positions on various local boards and dedicating significant efforts to the Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church. In 1990, he founded Arbitration and Mediation Services, Inc., contributing to the development of alternative dispute resolution processes in Chattanooga.

A graveside committal service for Thomas Harris will be held at Forest Hills Cemetery for family only.
