(BWXT) has been awarded a $1.5 billion contract by the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) to establish a domestic uranium enrichment capability for defense purposes. The contract involves the construction of the Domestic Uranium Enrichment Centrifuge Experiment (DUECE) pilot plant at BWXT's Nuclear Fuel Services site in Erwin, Tennessee. The plant will initially produce low-enriched uranium for defense missions and later be repurposed for naval propulsion applications. BWXT has already begun constructing a Centrifuge Manufacturing Development Facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, to support this initiative.
