Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) is set to open its new $1.7 billion landside terminal on November 18. The facility, which has been under construction for four years, aims to better accommodate origin
and destination passengers. The new terminal replaces an outdated structure originally designed for connecting passengers during PIT's time as a US Airways hub. The landside terminal spans 1.1 million square feet and is connected to the airside terminal via a covered 'Skybridge.' It will house check-in, security checkpoints, and baggage claim areas. The airport anticipates that baggage delivery times will be halved, thanks to a reduction in the length of the baggage belt from eight miles to three miles. Additionally, the terminal will streamline security with a consolidated checkpoint featuring 12 TSA lanes, compared to the current seven.
