What's Happening?
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has chosen Aurigo Software to provide its enterprise capital planning system, as part of a $7 million contract. This decision aligns with the federal government's
initiative to modernize construction project management through technology. Aurigo's Masterworks Plan tool, which is FedRAMP authorized, will be implemented to enhance capital planning, project management, and scenario modeling. Aurigo has previously signed a 10-year contract with FHWA's Office of Federal Lands Highway, starting in 2021, to modernize roadway construction planning.
Why It's Important?
The adoption of Aurigo's software by FHWA signifies a shift towards more efficient and secure management of federal construction projects. This move is expected to streamline processes such as bids, inspections, and field reports, potentially reducing costs and increasing project transparency. The integration of technology in infrastructure planning could set a precedent for other federal and state agencies, promoting innovation and efficiency in public sector projects.
What's Next?
Aurigo's platform will allow FHWA to adapt to evolving priorities and funding models, potentially influencing future infrastructure projects. The success of this implementation could encourage other government agencies to adopt similar tech-forward solutions, further modernizing the construction industry.
Beyond the Headlines
The push for technology in construction management reflects broader trends in government efforts to expedite permitting and environmental reviews. This could lead to faster project completions and improved compliance with federal standards.
