What's Happening?
Devon Energy, along with other industry partners, participated in the Northern Tier Industry & Education Consortium's (NTIEC) Energy and Oilfield Career Summer Experience. The program, held from July 27-31, aimed to introduce students from northeastern
Pennsylvania to various careers in the energy sector. Students engaged in hands-on activities, including site visits to natural gas production facilities and learning about equipment testing and assembly. The program also included educational sessions at Lackawanna College’s School of Petroleum and Natural Gas and the Susquehanna County Career and Technology Center. Participants were encouraged to explore career pathways and reflect on their experiences, culminating in presentations and certificates of participation.
Why It's Important?
The NTIEC summer program is significant as it provides students with exposure to the energy industry, potentially influencing their career choices and educational paths. By connecting students with industry professionals and offering practical experiences, the program helps bridge the gap between education and workforce needs. This initiative supports the development of a skilled workforce in the energy sector, which is crucial for regional economic growth and sustainability. It also highlights the importance of industry-education partnerships in preparing students for future careers, particularly in areas where energy production is a key economic driver.
