What's Happening?
A recent study conducted by researchers at the Healthy Aging & Alzheimer’s Research Care Center and the Translational Genomics Research Institute has revealed that individuals known as 'SuperAgers' do
not owe their exceptional memory abilities solely to genetic factors associated with Alzheimer's disease. The study examined 231 adults aged 80 or older, including 142 SuperAgers and 89 healthy controls. Despite having memory abilities comparable to those in their 50s and 60s, the SuperAgers did not show significant differences in Alzheimer's-related genetic risk factors compared to their peers. The research suggests that factors beyond genetics, such as lifestyle and brain structure, may contribute to maintaining cognitive health in old age.
