Phil Creighton, a journalist with a 30-year career in journalism, publishing, and broadcasting, has been awarded an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters by the University of Reading. Creighton is recognized for his significant contributions to community
journalism, having founded two independent local newspapers, Wokingham Today in 2015 and Reading Today in 2021. His career began while studying at the University of Reading, where he was the editor of the student-run newspaper, The Spark. Creighton has also worked for the Reading Evening Post, The Baptist Times, and BBC Radio Berkshire. In addition to his journalism career, he has written a book, worked as a TV critic and radio pundit, and contributed to cartoon strips for The Beano's publisher. Currently, he is involved in public relations and runs two blogs focused on arts, leisure, and assistive listening technology.
