Lithuania is set to become a strategic hub for the Leopard 2A8 main battle tank with the construction of a new assembly and maintenance facility in Kaunas. Announced by Finnish construction group YIT, the €30 million project aims to bolster NATO's armored
capabilities on its eastern flank. The facility will provide long-term maintenance, technical support, and workforce training, enhancing the operational readiness of NATO forces in the region. The project is part of Lithuania's broader Leopard 2A8 acquisition program, which includes a €950 million contract for 44 tanks. The facility will assemble up to 41 tanks, with deliveries expected between 2028 and 2030.
