What's Happening?
Missouri State University's Department of Computer Science in the College of Natural and Applied Sciences (CNAS) has been granted a $489,183 award from the National Science Foundation (NSF). This three-year
award, designated as an 'REU Site: Applied Research in Deep Learning' project, is the department's first NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates Site grant. The project, set to begin on October 1, 2026, aims to provide undergraduate students nationwide with opportunities to engage in research related to artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. Led by principal investigator Dr. Mohammed Belkhouche, with co-principal investigators Dr. Siming Liu and Dr. Mukulika Ghoshe, and including professors Dr. Jamil Saquer and Dr. Hui Liu, the initiative will allow 30 undergraduate students over three summers to conduct hands-on research in areas such as deep learning, cybersecurity, robotics, autonomous systems, and social media analysis. Students will work closely with faculty, develop research and problem-solving skills, and participate in professional development activities.
