What's Happening?
The Scottish Government has backed the development of a new mobile app designed to facilitate access to British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters for deaf individuals. Developed by Deaf Action and Burrotech
through the CivTech programme, the app aims to simplify the process of booking interpreters, addressing challenges faced by approximately 87,000 deaf BSL users in accessing essential services like the NHS. Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes emphasized the app's role in making Scotland more inclusive for deaf people, highlighting the innovation fostered by the CivTech programme. The app's development is part of a broader initiative to leverage technology in overcoming public service challenges, with CivTech having supported around 100 businesses since its inception in 2016.
