What's Happening?
Wärtsilä Energy Storage has launched GEMS Pulse, a new software solution aimed at enhancing the performance of battery energy storage systems (BESS). This tool is designed to transform complex battery data
into actionable insights, utilizing predictive analytics, anomaly detection, and scenario simulation. GEMS Pulse helps asset owners maximize uptime, reclaim unused capacity, and improve the financial performance of their energy storage projects. The software can unlock up to 20% of previously unused battery capacity by providing accurate measurements of key parameters such as state of charge and state of health. This allows operators to confidently utilize more of their battery capacity, translating into greater operational flexibility and revenue.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of GEMS Pulse is significant for the energy storage industry as it addresses common challenges faced by BESS operators, such as underutilization of capacity and financial losses due to inaccuracies in battery measurements. By improving the accuracy of battery condition assessments, GEMS Pulse can prevent project losses and enhance the overall efficiency of energy storage systems. This development is particularly relevant as the demand for reliable and efficient energy storage solutions continues to grow, driven by the increasing integration of renewable energy sources into the power grid. Operators and stakeholders in the energy sector stand to benefit from the improved performance and financial returns enabled by this technology.
What's Next?
GEMS Pulse is already in use by Wärtsilä’s energy performance services team, optimizing over 9 gigawatt-hours of battery capacity globally. As the software continues to demonstrate measurable improvements in performance and uptime, it is likely to see wider adoption across the industry. Future developments may include further integration with artificial intelligence to enhance predictive capabilities and provide even more precise insights into battery performance. Stakeholders in the energy sector will be closely monitoring the impact of GEMS Pulse on operational efficiency and financial outcomes.
