What's Happening?
Polimoda, a renowned fashion institution in Florence, and the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York have renewed their collaboration agreement, marking 40 years of partnership. This collaboration, which began in 1986, was initially established
to create a 'modern apprenticeship system' that provides vocational training for fashion industry professionals. The renewal was announced during the Polimoda Graduate Show 2026 in Florence, attended by FIT president Jason S. Schupbach and Polimoda president Niccolò Ricci. The agreement ensures the continuation of FIT's presence in Florence, allowing American students to study Fashion Design and Fashion Business Management at Polimoda's campuses. This partnership has been instrumental in blending Italian craftsmanship with a global perspective, contributing significantly to the fashion education landscape.
Why It's Important?
The renewal of this collaboration is significant as it continues to strengthen the educational ties between Florence and New York, two major fashion capitals. By providing students with access to diverse cultural and educational experiences, the partnership enhances their creative flexibility and adaptability, which are crucial in the global fashion market. The collaboration also supports the creative industries in both cities, fostering innovation and excellence in fashion education. This long-standing partnership has trained generations of fashion professionals, contributing to the prestige and influence of both institutions in the international fashion sector.
What's Next?
With the renewed agreement, Polimoda and FIT aim to further consolidate their historic bond and explore new goals in fashion education. The partnership is expected to continue providing students with unique opportunities to immerse themselves in Italian fashion culture while gaining a global perspective. Both institutions are likely to focus on expanding their programs and facilities to accommodate the evolving needs of the fashion industry. The collaboration may also lead to new initiatives and projects that enhance the educational offerings and strengthen the strategic link between Florence and New York.
