What's Happening?
Ingram Library Services and the American Library Association (ALA) have announced the creation of the Leadership Cohort Program, a professional development and mentorship initiative for librarians. The program, set to run annually through May 2029, will
engage 15 librarians each year to enhance leadership skills in areas such as collection strategy, community engagement, advocacy, and technology adoption. Participants will gain access to ALA resources and conferences, benefiting from the association's extensive network. The first cohort will be announced at the 2026 ALA Annual Conference in Chicago, with programming starting in October.
Why It's Important?
This initiative underscores the importance of continuous professional development in the library sector, particularly as libraries face evolving challenges in technology and community service. By fostering leadership skills, the program aims to empower librarians to better serve their communities and adapt to changing information landscapes. The collaboration between Ingram and ALA highlights a commitment to supporting the library profession, which plays a crucial role in education, literacy, and access to information. Strengthening leadership within libraries can lead to more innovative and effective services, benefiting both library patrons and the broader community.
