What's Happening?
The Malvern Historical Society is set to host a program exploring the history of Fort Laurens, the only American Continental fort built in Ohio during the Revolutionary War. Scheduled for June 4, the event will feature Doug Angeloni, a retired teacher
and historian, who will discuss the fort's historical significance and the stories of the soldiers involved. Fort Laurens, planned by George Washington and his staff, played a crucial role in Ohio's history despite its short existence. The event will also include a raffle to support the Malvern Historical Society.
Why It's Important?
This event highlights the importance of preserving and understanding local history, particularly as the United States approaches its 250th anniversary. Fort Laurens serves as a reminder of the strategic military efforts during the Revolutionary War and the broader historical narrative of the nation's founding. The program aims to educate the public about the fort's role and the individuals who contributed to its legacy. By engaging the community in historical discussions, the event fosters a deeper appreciation for the region's past and its impact on American history.
