The U.S. Army has completed a live-fire hypersonic test using the Heavy Artillery Test System (HATS), a repurposed launcher from the canceled Strategic Long Range Cannon (SLRC) program. The test, conducted at the Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona, involved
firing a specially made Integrated Launch Package (ILP) instead of a hypersonic missile. This approach demonstrated a faster, cheaper way to evaluate hypersonic payload performance at impact. The test marked the first live-fire trial of the hardened ILP, confirming its ability to withstand extreme forces during cannon launch.

This development is crucial for the U.S. military's hypersonic weapons program, as it offers a cost-effective method for testing hypersonic payloads.
