What's Happening?
Mambo WiFi, a Brazilian SaaS company, and Helium, a US-based decentralized wireless communications firm, have formed a joint venture to expand mobile coverage in Brazil. The partnership aims to utilize Helium's network of Wi-Fi offload hotspots, which
function as mini cell towers, to improve connectivity for mobile users. Mambo WiFi's existing 40,000 access points across Brazil will serve as the foundation for this expansion. The initiative targets over 100 million under-connected users in Brazil, providing them with affordable and reliable internet access.
Why It's Important?
This joint venture represents a significant step towards bridging the digital divide in Brazil, where many rely on shared or public Wi-Fi for internet access. By leveraging Helium's technology and Mambo WiFi's extensive network, the partnership aims to deliver enhanced connectivity to underserved areas. This could lead to increased digital inclusion, economic opportunities, and improved quality of life for millions of Brazilians. Additionally, the collaboration sets a precedent for similar initiatives in other regions, potentially influencing global telecommunications strategies.
