What's Happening?
Michigan State University’s W.K. Kellogg Experimental Forest is inviting volunteers to participate in its maple syrup production program. An orientation meeting is scheduled for January 14, 2026, to introduce prospective volunteers to the program. The
maple syrup production is weather-dependent and typically occurs in February and March. Volunteers will be involved in various tasks such as tapping trees, collecting sap, and boiling it into syrup. The program is open to individuals aged 18 and older, or those accompanied by a legal guardian. Interested participants are encouraged to register as spots are limited.
Why It's Important?
The volunteer program at MSU Kellogg Forest offers a unique opportunity for community engagement and education in sustainable agricultural practices. It provides hands-on experience in maple syrup production, fostering a deeper understanding of local ecosystems and the importance of environmental stewardship. This initiative not only supports local agriculture but also promotes community involvement and learning. By participating, volunteers contribute to the preservation of traditional syrup-making techniques and gain valuable insights into the seasonal cycles of nature.
