What's Happening?
SLB OneSubsea, a joint venture specializing in subsea technology, has been awarded two engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts by PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP). These contracts are aimed at delivering
subsea production systems for deepwater developments offshore Malaysia. The projects involve the expansion of the Alum, Bemban, and Permai gas fields in Block H, as well as the Kikeh oil and gas field, Malaysia’s first deepwater project. SLB OneSubsea will provide horizontal subsea trees, umbilicals, control systems, and related services as part of an integrated subsea production systems package. This collaboration builds on a 20-year partnership between SLB OneSubsea and PTTEP, which has seen the delivery of over 50 systems.
Why It's Important?
The awarding of these contracts underscores Malaysia's strategic importance as a deepwater hub in Southeast Asia. By extending the life and productivity of the Alum, Bemban, Permai, and Kikeh fields, the projects will contribute to the region's energy security and sustainability. For SLB OneSubsea, these contracts reinforce its position as a leader in subsea technology, showcasing its ability to enhance project efficiency and reduce lifecycle costs. The collaboration with PTTEP highlights the importance of long-term partnerships in the energy sector, particularly in complex deepwater environments.
What's Next?
The successful execution of these contracts will likely lead to further opportunities for SLB OneSubsea in the region, as Malaysia continues to develop its deepwater resources. PTTEP's focus on sustainable offshore operations may also drive future collaborations aimed at enhancing energy security and reducing environmental impact. Stakeholders in the energy sector will be watching closely to see how these projects progress and what innovations may emerge from this partnership.
