The U.S. Space Force has awarded contracts to nine firms to develop a satellite constellation capable of tracking aircraft from orbit using airborne moving target indication (AMTI) technology. These contracts, issued as competitive Other Transaction Agreements,

The initiative follows the Space Force's fiscal 2027 budget request, which includes $7 billion for AMTI systems.
