What's Happening?
Turkish Aerospace (TA) is developing a maritime version of its Hurjet light attack and trainer aircraft, according to TA CEO Mehmet Demiroglu. This initiative is part of the company's strategy to increase exports to NATO countries. Demiroglu stated that
the navalized Hurjet will require a more powerful engine and design modifications due to the demanding nature of maritime operations compared to land-based ones. TA has also been in discussions with the UK for nearly a year regarding its trainer procurement program. In April, Turkey signed a contract to provide Hurjet trainers to the Spanish military, following a 2025 agreement between TA and Airbus to co-produce the aircraft in Spain. Deliveries to the Turkish Air Force are expected by the end of 2027, with Spain receiving theirs by 2028. Additionally, TA is progressing with its fifth-generation fighter jet, the KAAN, with initial batches powered by U.S.-built General Electric F110 engines until a domestic engine, the TF35000, is ready by 2030.
