Cooperative Elevator Co., a farmer-owned cooperative based in Michigan's Thumb region, has been named the state's 2025 Agriculture Exporter of the Year by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD). The award was presented by MDARD Director
Tim Boring during a ceremony in Pigeon, Michigan. The cooperative, founded in 1915, is owned by over 1,100 grower-members and operates 11 locations in the Thumb area. It specializes in agronomy, petroleum, seed, grain, dry edible beans, and organics. The co-op exports navy, black, pinto, and small red beans, along with food-grade soybeans and white wheat. Approximately 55% of its dry beans are exported annually, with significant volumes shipped to Mexico, South America, Latin America, and other international markets. The cooperative employs over 200 people, including through subsidiaries and joint ventures in North Dakota, Washington, and Manitoba, Canada.
