What's Happening?
The former Chillicothe paper mill site in Ohio, previously operated by Pixelle Speciality Solutions, is set to welcome new tenants, aiming to revitalize the local economy after the plant's closure last year resulted in the loss of approximately 800 jobs.
The U.S. Paper Mill Company LLC, the current owner, has announced plans to transform the site into a hub for advanced technology and manufacturing. This initiative includes a $1.5 billion investment to establish a high-performance computing campus, supported by Aligned's deployment of semiconductor hardware from AMD. Additionally, Amphibian Aerospace Industries will set up the country's first aircraft fuselage and component manufacturing facility for its Albatross aircraft, which can land on water. The U.S. Medical Glove Company and U.S. Box Company are also part of the development, expected to create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs. The Chillicothe Chamber of Commerce anticipates significant job creation, with the glove company alone expected to bring in 150 permanent positions.
