What's Happening?
UNC Charlotte has announced the establishment of the Albert School of Construction, housed within the William States Lee College of Engineering. This new program is the first of its kind in North Carolina, covering all phases of construction projects
from planning to delivery. The school aims to address the growing demand for construction professionals in the Charlotte region, one of the fastest-growing construction markets in the U.S. It will offer undergraduate degrees in construction management, civil engineering technology, and construction engineering, as well as a graduate degree in construction and facilities engineering. The programs will include real-world experience opportunities, such as internships.
Why It's Important?
The launch of the Albert School of Construction is a strategic response to the increasing demand for skilled construction professionals in the Charlotte area. As the region experiences rapid growth, the need for qualified workers in construction and engineering is critical to support infrastructure development and economic expansion. By providing comprehensive education and practical experience, UNC Charlotte is positioning itself as a key player in meeting workforce needs, which could have significant implications for local economic development and job creation. The initiative also highlights the role of educational institutions in addressing industry-specific challenges and supporting regional growth.
