Palo Alto Networks has launched Advanced IP Defense as a core network security capability within its PAN-OS 12.2 Ceres release. This new feature is designed to address the growing trend of adversaries bypassing traditional domain and URL defenses by going
direct-to-IP or hiding within residential proxy networks. According to Unit 42 research, nearly one in four malware Command and Control (C2) sessions now circumvent DNS and URL inspections, and 52% of malicious direct-to-IP addresses identified by Palo Alto Networks were absent from major third-party threat feeds. Advanced IP Defense extends Precision AI to the network layer, aiming to disrupt attacker infrastructure before campaigns can unfold. It leverages real-time, cloud-delivered protection, combining global telemetry from over 75,000 deployments, zero-trust IP correlation, and dynamic risk profiling across more than 40 security attributes.
