Chris Paul and NBA Launch Pioneers Scholarship for HBCUs

What's Happening?

In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the first Black players in the NBA, the league and the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) have announced the NBA Pioneers Scholarship. This initiative, supported by a $750,000 donation over five years from the NBA and NBPA Foundations, aims to bolster HBCU academic and athletic programs. The scholarship will initially benefit West Virginia State University and Xavier University of Louisiana, alma maters of the honored pioneers. Chris Paul, a former NBPA president, emphasized the scholarship's role in commemorating the impact of Chuck Cooper, Earl Lloyd, and Nathaniel 'Sweetwater' Clifton.
