What's Happening?
The Gospel Coalition's (TGC) International Outreach, which joined TGC in 2012, is actively engaged in a mission of 'Theological Famine Relief' for the Global Church. Since 2006, this initiative has focused on partnering with translators, publishers, and
missions networks to provide new access to biblical resources in both digital and physical formats. The primary goal is to strengthen thousands of congregations by equipping pastors and elders, particularly in the Global South, where 75% of the world's Christians now reside. The organization aims to address the significant challenge that an estimated 85% of the 2.2 million evangelical churches worldwide are led by pastors with insufficient training. Many indigenous pastors in regions like South America lack formal education, reliable internet access, and quality theological books, making it difficult for them to effectively lead and feed their congregations with biblical truths. TGC International Outreach seeks to bridge this gap by distributing theological content and supporting training and mentoring efforts.

This initiative is crucial for the global Christian community, particularly in the Global South, where the rapid growth of Christianity has outpaced the availability of adequately trained spiritual leaders. The lack of theological education and resources can lead to a weakened understanding of biblical truths within congregations, potentially hindering spiritual growth and the effective spread of the Gospel. Additionally, they encourage participation in their 'Packing Hope' program, where individuals traveling overseas can deliver free theological books to pastors and church leaders. This involves ordering resources to be shipped to a departure location within the U.S. or directly to the destination country. The ongoing strategy involves identifying existing or potential relief projects that align with foreign missions strategies, ensuring that resources reach those most in need. The goal is to expand the reach of their theological content and training initiatives to further equip leaders in the Global South.
