The Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD) in Texas is leveraging reverse engineering to address critical gaps in military aviation readiness. This approach is particularly vital when spare parts are unavailable or have long lead times from original equipment
manufacturers (OEMs). The CCAD's Manufacturing Engineering Branch has successfully reduced a potential 12-month procurement delay to just two weeks by using advanced reverse engineering techniques. This process involves blue light scanning of damaged parts to create precise digital models, which are then used to produce 3D-printed prototypes and final components. This capability is crucial for maintaining operational readiness and fleet superiority, as it allows the military to bypass OEM production schedules and supply chain issues.
