The World Food Prize Foundation recently hosted the 15th Iowa Youth Institute at Iowa State University, marking a record attendance of over 365 students. This event, in collaboration with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, focused on global
challenges related to hunger, agriculture, and food security. Students prepared Global Challenge Research Papers on food security issues in various countries and presented their solutions to scientists, industry professionals, and academic leaders. The event featured remarks from notable figures such as Tom Vilsack, CEO of the World Food Prize Foundation, and Mashal Husain, its President. The Iowa Youth Institute aims to connect students with leaders in science and agriculture, fostering discussions and interactive experiences to strengthen global food systems.

The World Food Prize Foundation announced the Ambassador Terry Branstad Scholars in STEM Award, a $5,000 annual scholarship to be awarded at the Iowa Hunger Summit in July 2026. This scholarship aims to further support Iowa students pursuing STEM pathways, equipping them with the tools to lead and innovate in the fight against global hunger. Additionally, students participating in the Iowa Youth Institute can earn scholarships to Iowa State University, with further opportunities available through the Global Youth Institute and the Borlaug-Ruan International Internship. These initiatives are designed to encourage more young people to enter fields related to agriculture and food security.
