The UK Modern Slavery & Exploitation Helpline, operated by the charity Unseen, has reported a significant increase in suspected modern slavery cases within the construction sector. In 2025, the helpline received 150 reports, marking a 44% rise from the previous
year. The number of potential victims identified rose to 710, up from 492 in 2024. The construction industry now leads in the number of suspected victims, surpassing even the care sector. Unseen attributes this rise to the exploitation of skilled worker visas, where workers are often tied to a single employer, making them vulnerable to abuse. The charity highlights the need for stronger safeguards and oversight to protect migrant workers from exploitation.
