What's Happening?
The Olympic Refuge Foundation has announced the Lived Experience Fellowship Programme for 2026-2027, offering a remote, part-time opportunity for individuals with personal experience of displacement. The fellowship aims to involve refugees, asylum seekers,
and other displaced persons in shaping research, policy, and advocacy related to sport and displacement. Participants will work with the Olympic Refuge Foundation Think Tank, contributing to the development and communication of solutions for displaced communities. The program runs from September 2026 to August 2027, providing a monthly stipend of up to $730, depending on the fellow's country of residence.
Why It's Important?
This fellowship is significant as it empowers displaced individuals by recognizing their lived experience as valuable expertise. By involving them directly in research and policy-making, the program ensures that solutions are informed by those who have firsthand knowledge of displacement challenges. This approach not only enhances the relevance and effectiveness of initiatives but also promotes inclusivity and diversity in decision-making processes. The fellowship also provides professional development opportunities for participants, helping them build skills and networks that can support their future endeavors.
What's Next?
The fellowship program will begin with the selection of candidates, followed by virtual interviews and the announcement of successful applicants. Once the program starts, fellows will collaborate with mentors and the Think Tank to develop projects that align with their interests and the Foundation's priorities. The program's success could lead to further opportunities for displaced individuals to engage in similar initiatives, potentially influencing broader policy changes and increasing awareness of the role of sport in supporting displaced communities.
