What's Happening?
The Ellis Library & Reference Center in Monroe is set to host two community events on November 1 and 2. The Youth Maker’s Mart, scheduled for November 1, will feature over 30 young artists and crafters
from kindergarten to 12th grade, showcasing their handmade creations. Participants will retain all proceeds from their sales. On November 2, the Writers on the River event will bring together more than 50 regional authors from Monroe, Toledo, and Detroit, including approximately 30 new authors. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the authors, purchase personalized copies of their books, and participate in prize drawings. Prizes include a Kindle e-Reader and gift cards from local businesses. Both events are free and open to the public, aiming to foster creativity and community engagement.
Why It's Important?
These events highlight the role of libraries as community hubs that promote creativity and literacy. By providing a platform for young artists and regional authors, the Ellis Library & Reference Center supports local talent and encourages community interaction. The Youth Maker’s Mart empowers young entrepreneurs by allowing them to profit from their creations, fostering a sense of independence and business acumen. Meanwhile, Writers on the River connects authors with readers, promoting literacy and a love for literature. Such events can strengthen community ties and enhance cultural appreciation, benefiting both participants and attendees.
