What's Happening?
The U.S. Navy has authorized Boeing to commence production of the MQ-25A Stingray, an unmanned tanker aircraft designed to refuel strike fighters midair. This development follows eight years of design and testing, culminating in the approval for low-rate
initial production. The MQ-25A Stingray, valued at $200 million, can carry approximately 15,000 pounds of jet fuel, enhancing the operational capacity of carrier air wings by freeing up F/A-18 Super Hornets for combat missions. The aircraft is expected to extend the range of fighter squadrons by accompanying them on missions with additional fuel. The first carrier qualification trials for the Stingray are scheduled for the end of 2026.
