A Denver judge has issued a ruling allowing Nine PBS to retrieve 50TB of its archival television data, spanning 70 years, from Iron Mountain Data Centers. This development follows a period where Nine PBS lost access to its data after its cloud storage
provider, Open Source Storage (OSS), went out of business. The issue began in February 2026 when Nine PBS was unable to contact OSS for contract renewal, leading to the expiration of their agreement in March. Despite a 30-day grace period for data retrieval, OSS abruptly cut off access. Nine PBS later discovered its data was physically stored at Iron Mountain in Colorado. After a lawsuit and a default judgment confirming Nine PBS's ownership of the data, Iron Mountain initially blocked access, citing OSS's ownership of the physical servers. The recent court order establishes a framework for retrieval, including the appointment of a third-party vendor to assist, payment of outstanding storage fees by Nine PBS, and the return of any physical devices to Iron Mountain after data extraction.
