What's Happening?
Loyal, an animal health company, has announced that its drug LOY-003, designed to extend the lifespan of large dogs, has completed the Reasonable Expectation of Effectiveness (RXE) section of its Expanded Conditional Approval (XCA) application with the FDA.
This marks the third efficacy acceptance for Loyal's portfolio of longevity drugs, making it the first company to achieve this across an entire longevity drug portfolio. The FDA's XCA pathway, established in 2019, aims to encourage novel drug development for unmet clinical needs. Loyal's approach focuses on targeting the underlying mechanisms of aging rather than just the diseases associated with it. The company's lead drug, LOY-002, which targets insulin resistance in senior dogs, has also completed the FDA’s Target Animal Safety section and is currently in its pivotal field study. LOY-001 and LOY-003 specifically target growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), hormones that contribute to accelerated aging and shorter lifespans in large and giant dog breeds.
