What's Happening?
Cleary University hosted a two-day workshop for over 20 art students from Fowlerville High School, focusing on the works of internationally renowned artist Arthur Secunda. The 'Arthur Secunda Immersive
Experience' aimed to inspire students' creativity through innovative artistic techniques. Led by Jeff Von Buskirk, the workshop included tours of the Arthur Secunda Museum and hands-on activities such as watercolor painting, linocut etching, and collage creation. Students were encouraged to create their own original artwork inspired by Secunda's techniques. The workshop was supported by grant funding from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council and local community foundations.
Why It's Important?
The workshop at Cleary University provides students with a unique opportunity to explore and develop their artistic skills, potentially influencing their academic and career paths. By engaging with the works of Arthur Secunda, students gain exposure to internationally recognized art, which can broaden their cultural understanding and appreciation. The initiative also highlights the importance of arts education in fostering creativity and critical thinking among young people. The involvement of community foundations and arts councils underscores the value placed on cultural enrichment and educational opportunities in the region.
What's Next?
Additional workshops are planned for students from Brighton High School, Hartland High School, and Pinckney High School, ensuring broader access to this artistic experience. The ongoing support from local foundations suggests a continued investment in arts education and community engagement. Families will have the opportunity to visit the Secunda Museum for free on designated dates, promoting public access to cultural resources. The success of this program may encourage similar initiatives in other educational institutions, further integrating arts into the curriculum.
