What's Happening?
The College of the Siskiyous has announced the reopening of its LVN to RN Step-Up Program, with classes scheduled to begin in July. This program, approved by the Board of Registered Nursing, is designed for Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) who wish to become
Registered Nurses (RNs). The reopening is supported by local healthcare leaders and aims to build on the clinical experience of LVNs, preparing them for various healthcare settings. The program's revival is part of the college's commitment to career advancement and addresses the growing demand for registered nurses in Northern California.
Why It's Important?
The reopening of the RN program at the College of the Siskiyous is a significant development for the local healthcare industry, particularly in Northern California. By providing a pathway for LVNs to advance their careers, the program helps address the shortage of registered nurses in the region. This initiative not only supports the professional growth of vocational nurses but also strengthens the healthcare workforce, which is crucial for meeting the needs of rural and regional communities. The program's focus on expanding access to education aligns with broader efforts to improve healthcare delivery and outcomes.
What's Next?
The application period for the program is open from March 30 to April 10. Prospective students must submit complete applications, including documentation of prerequisite coursework, general education requirements, and TEAS test results. As the program prepares to welcome new students, it is expected to have a positive impact on the local healthcare system by increasing the number of qualified registered nurses. The college will continue to work with healthcare partners to ensure the program meets industry standards and addresses the evolving needs of the community.
