The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has introduced a new initiative aimed at recruiting attorneys into the federal government workforce. This effort, known as the Attorney Talent Network, is designed to connect potential applicants with federal recruiters,
facilitating easier access to job postings and resume searches on USAJobs.gov. The initiative also includes resources for internships targeting current law school students and recent graduates. This move comes in response to a significant exodus of attorneys from federal service, with over 9,000 leaving in 2025, resulting in a net loss of more than 7,000 federal attorneys. Agencies such as the Department of Justice, the Internal Revenue Service, and the National Labor Relations Board have expressed concerns over the shortage of legal professionals. Additionally, OPM, in collaboration with NASA, has launched the NASA Force program to recruit top engineers for critical roles in the U.S. space program.
