What's Happening?
Macau has achieved a new record in tourism with 40.06 million visitor arrivals in 2025, according to preliminary figures from the city's Public Security Police. This surpasses the previous record set in 2019
before the COVID-19 pandemic. The increase represents a 14.7% rise from 2024's figures. Despite a slight decline in passenger traffic at Macau International Airport, efforts to attract new carriers and increase flight frequencies have shown positive results. The city also welcomed over 766,240 visitors during the New Year season, indicating a strong recovery in tourism.
Why It's Important?
The record number of visitor arrivals in Macau is a significant indicator of the region's recovery from the pandemic's impact on tourism. This surge in tourism is likely to have a positive economic impact, boosting local businesses, hospitality, and related sectors. The increase in international routes and passenger traffic suggests a growing interest in Macau as a travel destination, which could lead to further investments in infrastructure and services. The tourism boom also highlights Macau's strategic importance as a hub for international travel in Asia.
