The Northern Ireland Executive has announced a new childcare strategy aimed at subsidizing over half of all childcare costs for working families by April 2032. This initiative is designed to alleviate the financial burden on families, where the average
cost of full-time childcare is approximately £57 per day, per child, or nearly £15,000 annually. The strategy, which will require an investment of around £500 million over the next four years, also emphasizes the need for better pay and training for childcare staff. Karen McCormick, who leads the Little Stars pre-school in Killyleagh, highlighted the importance of financial support to ensure fair pay for staff, which is crucial for maintaining quality care and retaining employees.
