What's Happening?
The Agriculture Development Office in Tanahun has initiated a program to promote the cultivation of Chaithe Dhan by offering subsidies of up to 85%. This initiative aims to encourage farmers to resume
the cultivation of Chaithe Dhan, which had seen a decline. Senior Agriculture Development Officer Parshuram Adhikari stated that the subsidy covers both seeds and the construction of irrigation canals in areas lacking such facilities. This year, Chaithe Dhan has been cultivated on 3,800 ropanis of land, primarily in Byas Municipality and Myagde Rural Municipality. The program is part of a broader effort to conserve and promote commercial cultivation of this crop.
Why It's Important?
The subsidy program is significant as it addresses the challenges faced by farmers in cultivating Chaithe Dhan, a crop that had been abandoned due to lack of support and resources. By providing financial assistance, the program not only revitalizes the cultivation of this crop but also contributes to the local economy by potentially increasing agricultural productivity. This initiative could serve as a model for other regions facing similar agricultural challenges, promoting sustainable farming practices and food security.
