What's Happening?
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is taking proactive measures to prevent waterlogging during the monsoon season. MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar inspected the Bhajanpura drain in Shahdara North Zone and directed officials to intensify efforts
in drain cleaning, desilting, and monitoring. The initiative aims to mitigate the risk of waterlogging, which is a common issue during heavy rains. Khirwar also emphasized the importance of public awareness campaigns in collaboration with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) to discourage the dumping of garbage into drains. Additionally, he instructed the installation of dustbins and the examination of mesh barriers near culverts to prevent blockages. During his visit to Gautampuri and the New Usmanpur Animal Birth Control Centre, Khirwar ordered the removal of unserviceable vehicles and called for improvements in the center's operations. He also sought an action plan to utilize vacant MCD flats.
