What's Happening?
NASA has awarded a contract to ADNET Systems, Inc. of Bethesda, Maryland, to provide global modeling and data assimilation support at the Goddard Space Flight Center. The contract, valued at approximately
$84 million, is a cost-plus-fixed-fee, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity agreement with a five-year performance period starting March 15, 2026. Under this contract, ADNET Systems will support the Goddard Earth Observing System (GEOS) model and data assimilation system, which includes developing and validating model components and integrating external components like sea and land-ice models.
Why It's Important?
This contract is crucial for advancing NASA's capabilities in earth science and climate modeling. The GEOS model plays a vital role in understanding and predicting climate patterns, which is essential for addressing global climate change challenges. By enhancing the accuracy and reliability of climate models, NASA can provide better data for policymakers and researchers, aiding in the development of strategies to mitigate climate impacts. The contract also reflects NASA's commitment to maintaining its leadership in earth science research and technology development.
