What's Happening?
Northwest Shoals Community College (NWSCC) and the University of North Alabama (UNA) have signed an articulation agreement to create a transfer pathway for students in Career Technical Education (CTE) programs. This agreement allows NWSCC graduates with
Associate in Applied Science (AAS) or Associate of Occupational Technology (AOT) degrees in fields such as Computer Information Systems Technology, Industrial Systems Technology, Salon and Spa Management, and Welding to seamlessly transfer into UNA’s Interdisciplinary Studies program. The pathway enables these students to pursue a Bachelor of Science/Arts degree, with the potential to transfer up to 30 hours of block credit for their technical and vocational coursework. Additionally, qualifying students will be eligible for transfer scholarships and a 20 percent tuition discount at UNA.

The newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will establish clear transfer pathways, provide individualized academic advising, and create scholarship opportunities for eligible full-time and part-time transfer students. NWSCC students enrolled in CTE programs will continue to receive hands-on training and classroom knowledge designed to meet the needs of the evolving workforce. UNA's Interdisciplinary Studies program advisors will work with transferring students to design degree plans aligned with their career goals. This partnership is expected to foster continued collaboration between NWSCC and UNA, potentially leading to the development of similar pathways in other disciplines, further expanding educational and career opportunities for students in the Shoals area.
