A housing lottery has been launched for 880 affordable apartments at the Willets Point development, located near Citi Field in New York. This initiative is part of a larger project that includes the construction of the city's first professional soccer
stadium and additional open spaces. The development, known as Willets Point Commons, is a joint venture by Queens Development Group, comprising Related Companies and Sterling Equities. The apartments are available to New Yorkers earning between 30% and 150% of the area median income, with rents ranging from $486 per month for studios to $4,244 per month for three-bedroom units. The project aims to transform the historically neglected area, once referred to as the 'valley of ashes,' into a vibrant neighborhood with amenities such as landscaped courtyards, a fitness center, and a community garden. The development is also designed with sustainability in mind, targeting LEED Gold certification.
